Aluminium 5086 forgings are mainly made up of aluminum (around 95.4%), magnesium (3.5%–4.5%), and small amounts of elements like iron, silicon, manganese, and chromium. While this alloy isn’t heat-treatable, it achieves impressive strength through strain hardening. It boasts excellent corrosion resistance, especially in marine settings. Typically, its mechanical properties include a tensile strength ranging from 270 to 350 MPa and a yield strength between 145 and 240 MPa, depending on the temper. Aluminium 5086 also provides good weldability and moderate machinability, ensuring stable performance across a wide temperature range, making it perfect for structural and heavy-duty applications.

Aluminum 5086 is not ideal for high-temperature forging applications due to its relatively low melting point and limited strength at elevated temperatures. It is better suited for marine and structural applications.
Aluminum 5086 offers high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and weldability. It is ideal for marine environments, aerospace applications, and custom forgings requiring durability, lightweight properties, and easy fabrication.
Aluminum 5086's excellent workability enables easy forging, allowing it to maintain strength and formability. However, its susceptibility to cold working requires careful temperature control during forging to prevent cracking.
Aluminium 5086 forgings are commonly utilized in scenarios that demand high strength, corrosion resistance, and lightweight features. In the marine industry, they are perfect for shipbuilding, boat hulls, and offshore platforms due to their ability to resist saltwater corrosion. This alloy is also used in military vehicles, armored structures, and aerospace components where reliability and toughness are crucial. In the transportation sector, it finds its way into truck trailers, railcars, and fuel storage systems. Moreover, Aluminium 5086 is used in pressure vessels and cryogenic tanks, thanks to its performance in low-temperature environments.
