Aluminium 2017 is a heat-treatable alloy that’s highly valued for its impressive strength and excellent machinability, making it perfect for demanding engineering tasks. Neith Metals adheres to international quality standards, blending cutting-edge manufacturing techniques with metallurgical know-how to create durable, high-performance components tailored to meet the unique needs of customers across different industrial sectors.
Aluminium 2017 is an age-hardenable alloy primarily made up of aluminium and copper, with copper content typically between 3.5% and 4.5%. It also includes trace amounts of manganese, magnesium, and iron. This specific blend gives the alloy its high strength and remarkable fatigue resistance. Its mechanical properties boast a tensile strength of 430–480 MPa, a yield strength of around 275 MPa, and an elongation rate of 10–15%. The alloy is known for its good machinability and fair workability, especially when heat-treated in conditions like T4 and T6. However, it does have limited corrosion resistance, so it usually needs some form of surface protection when exposed to harsh or corrosive environments.

Aluminum 2017 is suitable for forging but has limited high-temperature resistance. For high-temperature forging applications, consider alloys with better heat resistance, like 2219 or 2618.
The workability of Aluminum 2017, being moderate, affects forging by requiring precise temperature control (400–480°C) to prevent cracking and achieve proper plastic deformation, making it suitable for intricate shapes with care.
Aluminum 2017 offers high strength, excellent machinability, good corrosion resistance, and ease of welding, making it ideal for custom forgings in aerospace, military, and high-performance applications.
Aluminium 2017 forgings find their way into industries where high strength and precision are paramount. In aerospace, they’re often used for aircraft fittings, structural frames, and rivets, thanks to their excellent strength-to-weight ratio. The automotive sector utilizes them for performance parts, engine components, and suspension elements. Their fatigue resistance makes them ideal for crafting gears, shafts, and pressure-bearing parts. Additionally, they’re employed in military hardware, marine components, and high-performance industrial equipment. Neith Metals offers customized Aluminium 2017 forgings designed to meet the specific requirements of each application, ensuring reliability and performance every time.
